The government has assured an overseas Filipino worker who is detained in Oman of full assistance during the pendency of her case, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said yesterday.

Hazel Ann Marcelino, a 27-year old OFW, was arrested by the police early last month on complaints of her employer for alleged breach of trust and theft.

“We have already instructed our welfare officers to monitor the case and we are coordinating with the agency that recruited her to come up with a comprehensive assistance,” OWWA Deputy Administrator Josefino Torres said.

According to the latest report of Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) - Oman, the Prosecutor’s Office already approved the request of Philippine Embassy to take Marcelino under the Embassy’s custody while her case is on-going.

The report provided by the Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Section of the Philippine Embassy also said that Marcelino was detained on September 10, 2017 at Al Khoud Police Station following the complaint filed by her employer Nawal Al Hooti for alleged theft and breach of trust for stealing cash and gold, along with her two Filipina co-workers.

POLO-Oman in coordination with Philippine Embassy, continuously monitors the case and assured Marcelino and her family of a comprehensive assistance to facilitate the early resolution of her case.

Marcelino was deployed to Oman in November 2016 through the STB DJL Human link, Inc., as Sales and Marketing Officer at Nawal Art LLC.
