In keeping step with the emerging trend in borderless education, the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) launched its online learning module in the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) e-learning website to further strengthen the immersion of returning Overseas Filipinos Workers back into the local employment industry. In a report to Labor Secretary Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, Assistant Secretary Katherine Brimon, said the goal of the e-learning platform is to instil into the OFWs the culture of sound financial management. She said that returning OFWs can now learn the rudiments of savings and investment through the Introduction to Financial Management module. “This course is piloted in the e-learning website,” Brimon said. Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz lauded the NRCO for the initiative, saying the e-learning platform is one of the key offerings of the newly established DOLE Labor Governance and Learning Center (LGLC), which is anchored on the Secretary’s Planning Tool 2013-2016 that calls, among others, for the creation of website with an e-learning facility. The Introduction to Financial Management Module contains lectures on financial literacy, tips to save and invest. It involves online activities and exercises which are related to financial management. “Through this Learning Management System platform, our clients are able to access fast, easy and paperless programs and services,” said Baldoz. Prior to its creation, two representatives from the Center underwent a ten-day e-learning website training at the University of the Philippines – Information Technology Development Center (UP-ITDC). The National Reintegration e-learning system website was inaugurated during the 81st Founding Anniversary Celebration of DOLE in December at the LGLC which is located at the Blas F. Ople Hall, Intramuros Manila. End/NRCO
